Lake & Watershed Management
Whether your lake is looking to improve its recreational and ecological conditions or simply maintain them at a level of excellence, K&A helps you meet your goals.
Whether your lake is looking to improve its recreational and ecological conditions or simply maintain them at a level of excellence, K&A helps you meet your goals.
K&A’s lake management program utilizes biannual vegetation surveys to monitor recreational and ecological conditions on your lake. We use findings from these surveys to recommend management actions that can minimize nuisance vegetation while maintaining a healthy lake ecosystem.
We help your lake mitigate invasive species such as Eurasian Watermilfoil, Starry Stonewort, and Purple Loosestrife using a variety of methods. These range from traditional herbicide applications to more advanced options such as DASH (Diver Assisted Suction Harvesting) and insect biocontrols.
HABs (Harmful Algal Blooms) are formed by cyanobacteria under conditions of high water temperatures and high nutrient concentrations. These blooms can produce toxins that are harmful to humans and pets. K&A can help monitor your lake for HABs so that you can react as they occur, not after the fact.
Every lake has a watershed that drains into it. When a lake is experiencing water quality issues (excess sediment, nutrients, or pathogens), the root cause is often in the watershed and not on the lake itself. K&A works with your lake to both identify the likely sources of any water quality issues as well as to recommend options to mitigate them.
The quality of your lake’s fish habitat is a function of a variety of conditions both in and out of the lake, including aquatic vegetation, spawning habitat, shoreline conditions, and watershed loading. K&A helps lakes analyze the holistic picture of their fisheries situation in order to recommend options that will provide the best impact on fish habitat improvement.
Manicured lawns and other non-natural features increase the risk of shoreline erosion and stormwater runoff. K&A works with clients to install natural shorelines featuring deep-rooted plants that can withstand wave action and high water tables.
